SBN is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Your membership dues and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.

To be eligible for Business Membership, you need to answer "YES" to the following questions:

  • Is your business privately held?
  • Is your business headquartered within the Greater Philadelphia region?
  • Do more than 50% of the business shareholders live within 50 miles of your place of business?
  • Can you make independent decisions on business practices, purchases, distribution, business name and branding?
  • Do you pay all of your business expenses (marketing, rent, etc.) without assistance from or payment to a corporate headquarters?

If your business is not eligible for membership, we invite you to consider getting involved and offering your support as an SBN sponsor.

Membership Levels and Pricing

Here are brief descriptions of the types of businesses that are at each level and the associated cost.

  • Level 1/$125: Businesses that are just starting out and looking to learn best practices and make connections. They also are seeking affordable promotional opportunities.
  • Level 2/$350: More established businesses experiencing growth who want expanded promotional opportunities and more customized connections that offer guidance/support in a specific area; also the level for our Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Partners.
  • Level 3/$750: Businesses that are looking for maximum visibility within SBN and the sustainable business community at large. These businesses also have a desire to give back, including mentoring “up and coming” businesses.
  • Level 4/$1500: The level for businesses who are at the forefront of the sustainable business community and want to make an investment in SBN to demonstrate significant support of our programs and initiatives. These business also are seeking connections to specific demographic segments of our membership.

Membership Benefits

Here is a list of the many benefits that come with membership. Each benefit becomes more customized or expanded depending on the membership level. For example, higher level members have more features within their profile in the Sustainable Business Directory, and they also have more advanced promotional opportunities within our e-communications and at our events and programs.

  • ALL employees receive free or reduced pricing for all programs and events (more than 30 a year)
  • Access to member-only events, such as the Entrepreneurs’ Roundtables
  • Access to news, updates, and more as information is published in our various e-communications (monthly members-only newsletter, Weekly Round-up) and social media platforms
  • Opportunity to submit editorial and promotional content in SBN communication platforms such as the Weekly Round-up, Members-Only Newsletter, and social media platforms
  • Opportunity to influence and advance policy that shapes the local economy, access up-to-date policy information, and engage with the region's leaders and decision-makers
  • Ability to post job openings on the online SBN Jobs Board (Level 2 and up)
  • Use of the SBN Member Seal to differentiate your business with socially and environmentally conscious consumers
     

SBN also offers Individual Memberships ($75) for those who are not eligible for a Business Membership but who are interested in connecting with our network and learning about best practices for sustainable businesses. We also offer a Student Membership ($25) for those currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs. The maximum term of this membership is two years.
