Produce Buyer

KCFC is a not-for-profit grocery cooperative located in Kensington. We currently carry over 500 products produced within a 100 mile radius of Philadelphia and regularly work with and order from family-run Pennsylvania farms. Our team values environmental sustainability, serving our community, and supporting other local businesses.

We’re looking to fill a full-time Produce Buyer position with someone seeking a rewarding, challenging, and creative opportunity with a friendly face, willingness to learn, and a passion for FOOD! This is a training position that will eventually grow into a Produce Manager position.  You will be expected to manage all of the buying for the Produce Department and assist the Operations Manager to meet objectives for sales, margin, and excellent customer service. Overall, you will support the store in a leadership position.

Full-time hourly position: Reports to Operations & General Manager, $15-$17/hour depending on experience. Minimum of 1 year experience in grocery buying is required. Please visit kcfc.coop under the Careers tab for our full job description.

Purchasing:
-Manage inventory based on department sales and budget.  Place orders or oversee ordering with established suppliers.
-Help to create a system for buying, receiving deliveries and managing multiple vendors.
-Receive produce deliveries, following established receiving procedures.
-Work with Operations Manager to set pricing structures to achieve margin and sales goals, while maintaining a competitive image.
-Ensure updated accurate pricing is entered into point of sales system.
-Select  items for monthly specials; mark down items as needed to reduce losses.

Merchandising:
-Set up attractive displays that are seasonally appropriate.
-Ensure displays are replenished, rotated and culled throughout the day.
-Make sure conventional and organic standards are being met.
-Help to create task lists for staff to ensure optimal efficiencies.
-Participate in the passive demo program for the grocery department.
-Visit other stores for ideas on products, display, pricing and implementation.
-Assist in development of merchandising guidelines.
-Coordinate and assist with placing new items and seasonal changes into effect efficiently.
