In 1983, social entrepreneur Judy Wicks opened the White Dog Café in her Philadelphia home, turning a neighborhood restaurant into a model for sustainable business rooted in local sourcing, fair practices, and community. Believing a thriving local economy depends on strong, interdependent businesses, she founded the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia (SBN) in 2001, and co-founded the national Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (now Common Future) that same year. A tireless advocate for local economies and sustainable food, she also founded Fair Food and, in 2009, sold the White Dog Café under an agreement preserving its local ownership and sustainable practices. She chronicled her journey as a pioneer of the Triple Bottom Line of people, planet, and prosperity in her 2013 memoir, Good Morning, Beautiful Business.
