Best Practice Forum: Culture Clash – Cultivating a Healthy Workplace

Event Navigation

Join on SBN on November 6th for a Best Practice Forum.

Best Practice Forums are a series of workshops that bring B Lab’s Impact Assessment to life. Business owners come together in an honest, vulnerable, and supportive environment to exchange challenges and learnings regarding practicing the triple bottom line. Attendees leave feeling validated and inspired, with tangible ideas for improvements in their own businesses.

One third of the triple bottom line is people. As a business, this includes not only your customers and your community, but also your employees. Using business as a force for good means not only doing good for the environment and your community – it means ensuring that your employees feel supported, safe, and happy at work. Cultivating a healthy workplace is not easy, but a few SBN member businesses have made stand-out efforts to create a thriving workplace environment for their workers, and we’ve invited them to share with you what they’ve learned in the process. Join us in celebrating their wins and learning from their challenges on November 6th for this important conversation. Speaking on the panel will be:

  • Tatia Cooper is the CEO of Home Care Associates of Philadelphia, a worker-owned cooperative. She came to Home Care Associates in 1994 as a job coach and took over the role of CEO in 2018. Cooper has worked to develop solutions to housing, health, transportation and child care challenges that impact Home Care Associates’ workers’ success. She earned a Masters of Human Services degree from Lincoln University. She is one of many family members with careers in health and human services. Cooper resides in Philadelphia.
  • Karissa Justice is the Manager of People Operations at Azavea, a geospatial software engineering firm and B-Corporation in Philadelphia. Since joining Azavea in 2015, Karissa has focused on developing scalable processes that people will actually use for Azavea’s finance, marketing, sales, and human resources needs. She has a special interest in data and values informed decision making, video games, and taxes.  Karissa received her B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013.
Azavea, a certified B Corp, encourages employees to develop a personal research or learning program and can spend up to 10% of their time on this. Several research projects have been turned into new software tools, won awards or have enabled the company to pursue new business opportunities in new domain.
  • Isaac Salm is the Managing Director of MIO. At MIO, Isaac is responsible for leading the operations, finance and logistics of the business. Under his leadership MIO became a B Corporation and has developed breakthrough projects and strategies for MIO and its clients that redefine business for the Circular Economy. Isaac’s work with leading organizations such as Comcast, Bloomberg, Knoll, Philadelphia Center City District, Neiman Marcus and Target Corporation focus on creating the products, services and strategies necessary to build a truly sustainable culture.

Moderating this panel will be:
