Back in February, our Advocacy Committee, in partnership with Larry Levine from the NRDC and Mike Helbing from Penn Future, and with signatory support from DVGBC, we wrote a substantive comment letter to PWD about the July 2015 regulatory update. We expressed our support Green City, Clean Waters and for making regulatory updates that would further support the City’s progress towards the success of that plan. We also expressed questions and concerns we had about the implications of some of the changes, particularly the potential impact on the use of vegetated practices.
After meeting with PWD about this letter, attending several focus groups and other meetings convened by PWD about the regulatory update, and having many conversations with members and other stakeholders, we wanted to follow up with PWD to ensure we understood the updates, their intent, and their probable implications correctly.
As such, in July, our Advocacy Committee, in partnership with Larry Levine from the NRDC and Mike Helbing from Penn Future, wrote a “What We Heard” letter to PWD. We look forward to sharing that letter – and PWD’s responses – with you next month.
For now, know that PWD expressed interest in two major areas – updating calculation methodologies for vegetated practices and increasing demand in the private sector for vegetated practices – and has asked for our help in moving them along. We’ll meet with PWD later this week to discuss these two items, what is currently happening to advance on these goals (including what the GSI Partners are doing), and what else would further progress. We are very much looking forward to this meeting and to discussing this collaboration.
