Position Description:
The Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia (SBN) seeks a dynamic Sustainability Outreach and Engagement VISTA to help support SBN’s ongoing efforts to reach and engage local values-driven businesses throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. This high-exposure, exciting opportunity offers those interested in working in sustainability and with local businesses an excellent hands-on experience.
The VISTA Fellow will help build capacity by spearheading external communication strategies to advance SBN’s strategic objectives. The VISTA Fellow will also be an integral part of a multiyear effort to help identify, recruit, and design programming for BIPOC-, women-, immigrant-, and veteran-owned businesses that work in climate-resilient industries such as food, energy, water, and urban forestry.
Core Responsibilities:
Reporting to SBN’s Associate Director, the Outreach and Engagement VISTA will support in the following areas:
Communications
- Assist with developing all external communications including crafting press releases, newsletters, blog posts, and social media content, and various other communication verticals.
- Maintain and monitor an editorial calendar
- Design and execute event promotional materials including emails, Basecamp notifications, etc.
Climate Resilient Industry Partnership Outreach & Engagement
- Assist with the identifying BIPOC-, women-, immigrant-, and veteran-owned prospective businesses in the climate resilient industries such as food, energy, water, and urban forestry.
- Research organizations and business to target for future outreach
- Cull outreach lists and provide database management via a CRM
- Work with SBN’s Program and Membership Manager and GSI Partners Manager to implement and execute outreach strategies designed to retain and attract current and prospective SBN members in climate resilient industries.
- Assist with the program design, planning, and execution of various climate resilient programs, providing event and administrative oversight and support such as coordinating with venues, liaising with vendors, and registration.
- Perform evaluation of programs via surveys and other data collection and generate user friendly reports and recommendations based on responses.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to SBN’s values and mission.
- Current post baccalaureate or graduate student would be an ideal candidate
- Interest working with values-driven businesses that care about people, the planet, and profit.
- Some experience in program design and implementation, event planning, and program evaluation.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Mailchimp, Canva, and other software applications.
- Ability to attend off-site functions as needed
- Good oral and written communications skills.
- Detail-oriented planning and implementation skills.
- Willingness to work varied hours.
- Good organizational skills.
- Self-starter; ability to work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; team orientation.
Compensation:
