Become a force for nature and a healthy planet by joining the West Virginia, Pennsylvania & Delaware Finance and Operations Team!  Our work is focused on two areas where our outcomes can have the greatest impact for all who depend on nature within these three states and beyond: protecting our land and water, and tackling climate change. The Accounting Specialist provides specialized finance/accounting-related services to both the West Virginia (WV) Business Unit and the Pennsylvania & Delaware (PADE) Business Unit through a shared services model. The position will work closely with project managers, Business Unit leadership and Board of Trustees, as well as Legal and Finance colleagues at the Conservancy. Working under the supervision of the Director of Finance and Operations (PADE), the Accounting Specialist will support accounting and finance activities for both Business Units.

We are looking for an energetic and motivated person who can provide specialized services in accounting and financial activities. Someone who can expeditiously, accurately, and courteously respond to or route various inquiries from internal staff and external partners. A person who has strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Who will communicate effectively, work in partnership with and support project managers and leadership team with complex financial data and budgeting information. This person will also need to be experienced and comfortable with processing various transactional accounting forms and reports such as journal entries, expense reclasses, revenue allocations and cash receipts on a regular basis.

 

The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes:

Minimum Qualifications
·        Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years’ related experience or equivalent combination.

·        Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.

·        Experience using automated accounting systems.
Preferred Qualifications
·        Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.

·        Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.

·        Non-profit accounting experience preferred.

·        Experiences working with a board of trustees.

·        Experience in manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data.  Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·        Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·        Working knowledge of grants accounting.
