As SBN is a nonprofit organization working to build a just, green, and thriving local economy in Greater Philadelphia, we are committed to keeping our operations local and independent, and appreciate any help along the way. Every contribution, large or small, makes a difference in how our region does business. Together, we can drive positive change, foster an inclusive local economy, and ensure the growth of environmentally responsible businesses.
For individuals who wish to be part of our community, there are opportunities to lend your support to our mission and our membership—participating as a Friend of SBN or a Small Business Champion gives you access to member events and other benefits. SBN’s partnership with 1% for the Planet started in 2022 to advance our collective action with like-minded businesses and organizations to support our planet.
1% for the Planet was launched in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, former owner of Blue Ribbon Flies. Through 1% for the Planet, businesses and organizations pledge to donate 1% for their gross annual sales to environmental nonprofits, such as SBN.
Together, we use the power of collective action to protect the environment and better our planet, giving over $250 million since 2002. It has become a global network of over 3,000 business and individual members connected to over 4000 environmental nonprofits.

A donor-advised fund, or DAF, is a giving account established at a public charity. The 501(c)(3) public charity serves as a “sponsoring organization,” which manages and administers individual DAF accounts.
