Advocacy

Building an environment where local businesses can thrive.

The Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia (SBN) is the region’s leading voice for independent, values-driven businesses.

Through advocacy, policy engagement, and coalition-building, SBN ensures that Greater Philadelphia’s local economy supports businesses that prioritize people, planet, and prosperity.

Our work helps shape local and state policy to advance equitable economic growth, expand climate resilience, and create conditions where sustainable businesses flourish.

What We Do

SBN’s advocacy work is grounded in the belief that local businesses are essential to a just, green, and thriving economy.

We collaborate with policymakers, civic leaders, and partner organizations to shape the systems that drive economic opportunity and sustainability across Greater Philadelphia.

We do this by:

  • Convening business owners and policymakers to discuss issues impacting local enterprises.
  • Advancing policy initiatives that promote equitable growth and environmental sustainability.
  • Producing research that demonstrates the economic and social value of sustainable business practices.
  • Mobilizing our network to take collective action on shared priorities.

Why It Matters

Philadelphia faces complex challenges—climate change, social and economic inequity, and post-pandemic recovery—that require bold, coordinated action.

SBN’s advocacy ensures that sustainability, equity, and local investment remain central to the region’s economic agenda.

Our Policy Agenda provides a five-year framework calling on local, state, and federal policymakers to adopt the changes necessary for a just, green, and thriving local economy.
